You are either living it or wish you were living it. That’s the just the way it is…
It started with Gidget riding the wild surf in the sixties and exploded as the world watched Pamela Anderson run up and down Zuma Beach in Baywatch. The Red Hot Chili Peppers said it best in one of the biggest hit songs: “It’s the edge of the world and all of western civilization, the sun may rise in the east, at least it settles in a final location. It’s understood that Hollywood sells Californication."
So what is it that makes So Cal such an amazing place? Is it that the positive ions of salt air? Is it because every trend that sweeps across the nation and then the world starts in Southern California? It could be the search in all of us for the endless summer. It could be the perfect weather. It might be the great restaurants and amazing sunsets. It could be fast cars and excess, flip flops and tanks tops, rebellion and arrogance.
So Cal is not for the faint of heart. You have to run with the big dogs, make money and pay taxes. Paradise is not cheap, but it’s well worth the effort. You think you are overpaying to live here, but in the end, do you want an affordable house in Iowa? How about Texas? They say “everything is bigger in Texas” and “don’t mess with Texas", but I’ve spent time a lot of time there. The people are great, but winters are bleak, in the spring your eyes swell up from the intense pollen, and when that finally goes away, you get a hot sticky summer of stagnant air. We could review the rest of the states, but in the end, you always come back to, not just California, but Southern California.
Where else could you start the day skiing on a mountain and the finish it riding waves at sunset? Want to bike ride down Highway 101 and keep pace with the dolphins playing in the surf? How about breakfast on the water in Malibu or shopping in Newport Beach? Maybe catch a weekend art festival in Laguna or wine tasting in Napa Valley? Feel the need for speed? Why not spend the day in San Diego at the Del Mar race track or Santa Anita? Like watching big league baseball? You have three teams within a couple of hours drive. You get the point…
We have lived all over the US and traveled the world, and I always come home to where I grew up, the beach towns of Southern California.
As you can tell, this blog is “unashamedly” So Cal… We look forward to sharing it all with you and hearing what you have to say about it as well …
